St. Patrick’s Day is almost here!
On Sunday, March 17, we’ll celebrate a holiday that has been observed in our country before it was even a country.
As more and more Irish came to the United States, the holiday grew and grew in its popularity as it inspired everything from parades to dying rivers a more verdant hue.
It’s a day of celebrating heritage, green things, and having good food and drink with friends.
We want you to have a very green St. Patrick’s Day near your Atlantic Builders home, so here are a few special places you can toast the luck of the Irish.
From our townhomes at Springhaven and Foxcroft, to our attached villas at Afton Villas, to our single-family homes at Ruffins Reserve and Brandermill at Fawn Lake, a new home by Atlantic Builders gives you the spaces and features you want and deserve. And being in the Spotsylvania County/Fredericksburg area means you’re never far away from a good time—especially for St. Patrick’s Day.
There are many fantastic watering holes to tempt your tastebuds, but we’ve picked out just a few that will make sure you have a great time on St. Patrick’s Day:
Located in historic Fredericksburg in a building that’s been serving the area since the late 1800s, The Sunken Well Tavern is a true neighborhood restaurant. The food here is hearty, comforting, and delicious, using as much local produce as possible from nearby farms. This is a place for live music, local art on the walls, and a strong sense of community spirit. A tavern is a great place to spend St. Patrick’s Day, and The Sunken Well Tavern is one of the best.
Another delightful tavern in Fredericksburg is The Colonial Tavern, Home to the Irish Brigade. A robust menu includes everything from pub favorites like the Cheddar Ale Dip to unique reinventions like the Irish Corned Beef Eggrolls. Open late (till 2AM on Fridays), The Colonial Tavern is a fantastic place to go to find, as their motto suggests, “Great Food, Good Friends Old & New.” Don’t forget to try their amazing Guinness Beef Stew and Feisty Leprechaun Wings!
Stafford is a great place to call home, and an even greater place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Atlantic Builders is proud to offer homes here, including the spot to tour our award-winning, one-level Bridgewater model home, and Join our A-list for our upcoming new neighborhood in Stafford County, Hampstead which will open for sales this summer, This gorgeous new community will have 3+ acre homesites and Atlantic Builders will be introducing two new home designs as well as offering our popular current line of modern two-story and innovative main level living homes. Whether you travel up north a bit to enjoy the big parades and parties in places like Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, or just stay local and have fun at the 30th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Soccer Tournament, you’re sure to find something fun to do. Here’s where you should eat:
Fatty’s Taphouse is a delicious venue to find fresh seafood steam pots, amazing burgers, and beer—lots of beer. And best of all, you don’t have to wait for a server to order your next round with Fatty’s self-service tap system. Just pay by the ounce to pour yourself pints and flights. With two locations (one in Stafford and one in Fredericksburg), you’re never far away from good food, especially on St. Patrick’s Day!
Barley Naked Brewing Co. champions simple, hand-crafted, traditional recipes. This brewhouse is right in your backyard if you live in Stafford, and also invites local musicians and food trucks to make the experience even more memorable. At Barley Naked Brewing Co., you’re sure to have a great time exploring new tastes and finding a new favorite beer. For St. Patrick’s Day, we recommend trying their Rock Hill Irish Red Ale—2023 Gold Winner at the Great American Beer Festival!

From here, you’ll easily reach Downtown Charlottesville, UVA, the 5th Street Shopping Center, and I-64 for even more adventures. With over 40 area wineries, a rich cultural and historical scene, and plenty of outdoors to explore, Charlottesville is a wonderful place to call home. And where should you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day if you live here? We recommend:
On property that dates back to 1849, LW’s Livery Stable is a community watering hole that welcomes you to the family. Find it in Historic Downtown Charlottesville and enjoy a relaxing environment, deliciously upscale pub food, local brews, and LW Livery Stable’s “own special concoctions.” It’s a place you go to again and again, meeting new friends each time. And it’s a wonderful pub to spend St. Patrick’s Day in, savoring the history in every sip—and the “world famous” shoestring fries!
Just a short walk from UVA’s Scott Stadium, Dürty Nelly’s Pub has been a Charlottesville favorite since the 1970s. Sandwiches (including the 1.5 lb. Dagwood!), subs, wings, Bavarian soft pretzels, and more await your tastebuds. Performances by local musicians and karaoke set the stage for one of the best hang-out spots in all of Charlottesville. And vegetarian options and rotating specials mean there’s always something for everyone at Dürty Nelly’s!
A little farther west from Charlottesville, you’ll find the towns of Stuarts Draft and Waynesboro. Located in the always picturesque Shenandoah Valley, living here puts you in proximity of parks, shopping, and many community events. Find your forever place in our contemporary townhomes of Townhomes at Evershire, or single-family home neighborhoods of Evershire North and Overlook. And then, on St. Patrick’s Day, you’ll be close to:
Opened in 2014, Seven Arrows Brewing Company serves up American fare with a twist and 13 drafts (with some seasonal and special brews rotating in and out). Kid-friendly food and drink means it’s a fun place to bring your little ones, and leashed dogs are welcome in the taproom and outdoor areas. Sit by the fireplace and tell tales of St. Patrick, toast to your fortune with a nice lager, and bring it all home with some out-of-this-world BBQ pulled pork mac & cheese.
Mill Street Grill has been a neighborhood staple since it first opened in 1992. The historic building was originally created as a mill in the late 1800s, and now is a place offering outstanding food in a laidback dining experience. Steaks, fresh seafood, pasta, and their signature fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs are just some of the delectable dishes you’ll find here.
