How Different Elevations Add Personality to Your New Atlantic Builders Home

Posted: October, 10, 2024 | Categories: Atlantic Builders | New Home Values

For most people, when they hear the term “elevation,” they think of how high something is, like a hill or mountain.

But in our industry—homebuilding—elevation means even more.

It’s when a home jumps up into another dimension from a flat floor plan.

This is where the home’s personality really comes into play: the exterior architectural differences that make it stand out.

Atlantic Builders prides ourselves in crafting classically modern exteriors that encompass all the emotions of home. Our award-winning experience is what makes the difference to new homeowners, and why we’ve been delivering new homes for over a quarter of a century.

Our passion for homebuilding is apparent in every nook and cranny, including the first impression of your new home’s elevation.

Let’s explore a little more what that means, and look at some examples of home elevations adding personality to new Atlantic Builders homes!

The Finley at Brandermill at Fawn Lake: Eastern Seaboard, Craftsman, & Modern Farmhouse

Brandermill at Fawn Lake is a luxury golf course community with a 288-acre lake in Spotsylvania. And you could pick, on your 1/3–1/2-acre homesite, the Finley home style. This exciting variation on the traditional two-story home features all the space and spaces you need for your family to live, play, work, and thrive. It also is available with five different elevations: Eastern Seaboard with Front Porch, Craftsman, Modern Farmhouse #1, Modern Farmhouse #2, and Modern Farmhouse with Portico.

The Eastern Seaboard style is characterized with a symmetrical face (look how the front porch balances the 2-car garage) and elements that look like they’d be able to withstand the storms normally found on the East Coast. It’s a homestyle that has practicality in mind.

When we look to the Craftsman elevation, we see wide porches with tapered columns, siding with a shingle design, and decorative gable brackets. These are all features made popular around the turn of the 20th century, and staples for this elevation.

The final elevation available for the Finley is Modern Farmhouse (with a few different options). Modern Farmhouse takes the traditional Farmhouse style known for its wide porches, long homes, and simple colorways, and updates it gently for contemporary home buyers. They are a magnificent blank slate to paint your lifestyle on.

The Chesapeake at Doves Farm: Piedmont & Cottage

Now selling in Manassas, Doves Farm is a community of 1-acre homesites with access to all the area’s main roads for commuting ease. One of the home designs available here is the Chesapeake. This spacious 3-bedroom home offers the best of main-level living, including an owner’s suite with two walk-in closets! It’s available in the following elevations: Eastern Seaboard, Piedmont, Farmhouse, Cottage, and Craftsman. Since we’ve already covered three of those, let’s just examine the other two.

The Piedmont elevation is based on the history of the region between the Eastern Coastal Plain and the Blue Ridge Mountains. A variant of the Cottage elevation (see next style), the Piedmont is a charming home façade  that echoes the warm and inviting nature of its historic past.

The Cottage elevation comes from the cottages that dotted England in medieval times. From there, the style evolved into a universal term for a wide variety of comfortable homes. The Cottage elevation for the Chesapeake adds a Craftsman-style column to the front porch, providing a wonderful extra bit of curb appeal.

The Kemper at Overlook: Federal

Overlook in Stuarts Draft in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia is  a very popular Atlantic Builders community. This single-family neighborhood offers main-level living, innovative 2-story homes, and all the features you desire. One of the home styles available is Kemper, which can come with one of four elevations: Eastern Seaboard, Federal, Craftsman, and Craftsman with Front Porch. Let’s look closer at the elevation we haven’t explored yet.

The Federal style harkens back to the birth of our country and the American Revolution. Adapted from the Georgian home style brought over from England, the Federal elevation is known for its rectangular flat front, and no-to-little ornamentation or porches. One of the most well-known Federal-style homes is The White House!

Three More Elevations: Transitional, Arts and Crafts, and Bungalow

Three more elevations we want to mention have been featured in some of our past communities and will be featured again in future ones. And, of course, all of these elevations and the homes they beautify can be built on land you already own for the truly custom home experience.

One of the elevations for our Amberly homes is Transitional. As the name implies, this elevation is an in-between aesthetic. It straddles traditional and contemporary stylings, taking hints from both and combining them into its own thing. It’s a fantastic elevation for someone who wants a little bit of everything!

The two other elevations we’ll look at are available for our Bridgewater home (and other home styles, of course).  The first one is Arts and Crafts. This was a reaction to the perceived sameness and coldness that the Industrial Revolution was producing. Arts and Crafts elevations bring in whimsical ornamentation—like columns, decorative siding options, and more—to let your home make a fun first impression.

The second elevation for the Bridgewater we haven’t explored is the Bungalow. Taking inspiration from 19th Century British homes in India, the bungalow became known for its long porch, ornamented gables, and additional windows to let in even more light. These are just some of the unique features we bring to our bungalows to create wonderful homes.
